To determine the sidewall height on metric sizes, motorcycle tire manufacturers have what is called the aspect ratio.

The aspect ratio is the percentage of the tread width: for example, on the tire size above, the aspect ratio is 100% of the tread width (the first number in the tire size), creating a 110 millimeter sidewall height.
